Spring Golf Course Updates: Improved Conditions and Maintenance

After a cold and slow start to April, spring has finally arrived. Turfgrass conditions on the greens, tees, and fairways are improving with the warmer soil temperatures. We are now maintaining all the playing surfaces more consistently.

Earlier this spring Alex and the staff aggressively edged the bunkers and redistributed the sand to a more uniform depth. This hasn’t been done in a few years and the results speak for themselves. As a gentle reminder please leave the bunker rakes inside the hazard.

We have good news to share. Our Sand Pro tractor was on back order until the fall of 2026. It has arrived ahead of schedule. This machine will help us keep the hazards smoother on a consistent basis.

Recently the greens were lightly groomed followed by a light application of kiln dried sand. This season we are striving to groom and sand the green surfaces every few weeks throughout the growing season.  This will help keep firmer playing surfaces, mitigate organic matter accumulation, and offer better ball roll.

Due to a rain out we have rescheduled our dry-ject greens aeration for Friday May 9th.  There will be temporary pins in front of the greens as we work on the greens.  The greens will be open for play later in the day.  I will follow up in the next blog post about the importance of this cultivation practice.

We expanded the greens, approaches, and fairways in different areas on the course. This was guided by our golf course architect.

Please be patient with this process. It will be quite some time before these areas mature and play as they should. I hope to see you out in the fairways!

  1. Hi Duncan,

The course looks as healthy as I’ve ever seen and I feel this will be a great year for the course. You and your crew are doing an outstanding job and I know many others feel the same way.

One thing. Can anything be done to the road that leads from thr 1st tee/ practice green to driving range. It looks terrible and is even more terrible to navigate a golf cart on.

I can see that we’re spending a lot of money on the course and the results are apparent and promising. Can the road get some attention?
