Golf Course Update: New Tees and Greens Ready for Play

It has been a busy start to the season opening up the property all the while finishing up our fall
and winter project work. The 12th and 14th women’s tees were sodded a few weeks ago and
are now open for play.

14th tee

The new sod on the second green continues to make steady progress. It is now open for play. In the coming weeks we will aerate the sod to encourage deeper rooting, help protect the crown of the plant, and smooth out the putting surface. The new sod is too immature to withstand our current mowing height. My hope is that by the end of June it will be
down to .125mm and perform like the rest of our greens.

2nd Green

I have noticed appreciable gains on our green expansion “mow outs” on the 1st and 5th greens.
Last fall they were aggressively overseeded and the seedlings are maturing and filling in the
voids. I think by the end of this summer we should see a more uniform stand of bentgrass.

The greens were aerated with a dryject machine on May 5th. This machine uses water to blast a
channel into the soil profile that is then filled with kiln dried sand. This link gives an example of
the dryject process: https://youtube.com/shorts/UQGE9lhJEGE?si=D-7vKeY0o2Gyrtzp It is a labor-intensive few hours but leaves minimal disruption while providing immeasurable plant health benefits. It has been a bit cool the last few weeks so recovery has been a little slow but the greens are almost healed over. Recently, we have started mowing with sharp reels so you should notice improved ball roll on the greens

The staff and I are thankful that the hectic spring season is in the rear-view mirror. We are
looking forward to the summer season and maintaining the course to a high level of play. See you out in the fairways!
