Season Ending: Course Improvements Ahead

The season ended with dry and blustery conditions which produced very good golfing
conditions.  After the conclusion of the Pro-Member, we started to work on expanding the
second green.  This expansion doubled the square footage of the green and it is now our largest
green at 8,600 sq ft.  It was sodded with 007 bent grass, which is a species that has improved
genetics. This cultivar provides a very dense and fine playing surface that tolerates less fertility
and chemical inputs.

Additionally, the Greens committee is continuing its plan to refurbish our tee boxes. The
forward (green) tees on the 3rd , 9th , and 14th tees were stripped and laser leveled.  They will be
sodded in the spring with low cut bluegrass which is a durable and drought tolerant species.

In typical New England fashion, the weather changed very abruptly. We were fortunate to have
the time to put the property to bed in time.  If you are out enjoying the property this winter,
please stay off the greens. They are roped off in front as a gently reminder that we are
protecting the club’s most important asset. I want to thank everyone for the positive comments on course
conditioning this season. I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday!

All the best,

Duncan McGowan
